![]() The Takoma Safe Routes to School program aims to encourage students to walk to school regularly and safely. In addition to providing built in exercise for the students, this will reduce traffic congestion and emissions around schools. Safe Routes also finances infrastructure projects in the City of Takoma Park such as improving sidewalks and 5K Challenge - Sunday May 2, 2010
International Walk to School Day is held on the first Wednesday in October. Over 5,000 schools from 50 states participate, including four area schools. . Walkers from the U.S. will join schools in 40 countries around the world. SRTS offers each of the seven schools a free bicycle safety workshop or “bike rodeo.” Even if you don’t have time to walk everyday, you can join a small group in your neighborhood to organize a WALKING SCHOOL BUS.
