The 5K Challenge promotes pedestrian safety and challenges the students, parents and staff at Piney Branch Elementary School, Rolling Terrace Elementary School, Takoma Park Elementary School, East Silver Spring Elementary School and Takoma Park Middle School and city residents, to train and compete in a 5K Run or Walk, 1 Mile Fun Run or ¼ Mile Youth Run. Proceeds fund health and pedestrian safety programs through the school PTAs.

Walk to run training programs for students, parents and school personnel will be offered by the PTA at each school to prepare for the race. Runners don't have to have children at one of the schools to participate. All are welcome.
