About Our 55 & Over Programs

Whether you are working, semi-retired, or retired, a variety of great leisure, educational and personal development opportunities are available for you through the 55 and Over Activities Program at the Community Center. The 55 and Over Activities Program offers activities that encourage and support health, creativity, and social interaction for active adults age 55 and older. New Classes Offered Through Montgomery College

 

Getting Started with Social Media

This course through Montgomery College is for adults ages 55 and older interested in learning the basics of social media and will bring you up to speed on how to create, use, and maintain a Facebook page and Twitter account. The course will also cover how to update your status, post photos and videos, and connect with friends and business accounts on Facebook, as well as how to tweet, post photos and videos and find accounts to follow on Twitter. Become familiar with Facebook’s privacy policies and settings. Lifelong Learning Institute, Montgomery College course #LLI694. Landscapes and Seascapes

This course through Montgomery College will help students learn to paint exquisite landscapes and seascapes from photos using watercolor, acrylic or oil. Rather than simply “copying a photograph” students will learn to interpret the reference material to express their artistic voices. Analysis of the work of French Impressionists and Post Impressionists such as Monet, Seurat, Van Gogh and Cezanne will be used for inspiration. All skill levels welcome. Game Room Open Play

The Game Room is available for adults age 55 and older to play pool, table tennis, basketball arcade and other active games. The game room is a great place to join your friends for lively conversation, and just to hang out before, in-between and after classes during the day. Hours may vary for camps or special events.

Forever Young 55 Plus Recreation Advisory Group Meeting 

Seniors and Boomers, we want to hear from you. Join other active adults 55 and older from our community at the next recreation advisory group meeting. Bring your suggestions and ideas for this recreation program in Takoma Park. Light refreshments will be served. Come to an open and relaxed meeting and get involved!
