Whether you are working, semi-retired, or retired, a variety of great leisure, educational and personal development opportunities are available for you through the 55 and Over Activities Program at the Community Center. The 55 and Over Activities Program offers activities that encourage and support health, creativity, and social interaction for active adults age 55 and older. Class & Program Spotlights
New Classes Offered Through Montgomery College
Montgomery College, in partnership with the Takoma Park Recreation Department, is bringing its popular continuing education program for adults to Takoma Park. Residents now have the opportunity to participate in a variety of exciting college level courses, offered throughout Montgomery County, at the Takoma Park Community Center (7500 Maple Ave). The Life and Work of Georgia O'Keeffee will be offered during the Spring Session, and registration is underway.

AARP Smart Driver Course
The AARP Driver Safety Program, the nation’s largest classroom refresher course for drivers 55 and older is designed to tune up driving skills, explain safe driving strategies, cover the latest rules of the road and defensive driving techniques. Some insurance companies in Maryland may offer auto premium discounts to drivers who take this course. Check with your agency. Make your check payable to AARP. Bring your check, AARP card and driver’s license to class. Instructor: Arlene Farber-Sirkin.
$15 for AARP members
$20 for non-members
Payment will be collected by the instructor the day of the class,but pre-registration is required through Activenet to reserve your seat.

Game Room Open Play
The Game Room is available for adults age 55 and older to play pool, table tennis, basketball arcade and other active games. The game room is a great place to join your friends for lively conversation, and just to hang out before, in-between and after classes during the day. Hours may vary for camps or special events.

New Recreation Center Offerings for 55 and Over
Takoma Park Recreation Center is offering a free pass for seniors 55 and over who would like to use the fitness center. You can register for this free pass at the Takoma Park Recreation Center (7315 New Hampshire Ave) . Stop by for a tour of the fitness room! Join us every Tuesday, from 12pm-1pm for indoor lap walking. Don't worry about the cold weather coming, join your neighbors for socialization and exercise! FREE
Free Fitness Room Membership at Takoma Park Recreation Center
Sign-up at the Recreation Center (7315 New Hampshire Ave) for a FREE fitness room membership! Its quick and easy to do and then you too can enjoy the fitness room during regular business hours.
Forever Young 55 Plus Recreation Advisory Group Meeting
Seniors and Boomers, we want to hear from you. Join other active adults 55 and older from our community at the next recreation advisory group meeting. Bring your suggestions and ideas for this recreation program in Takoma Park. Light refreshments will be served. Come to an open and relaxed meeting and get involved! New Zumba Gold class added!
Missed out on the previous Zumba Gold classes? We are offering an additional Tuesday class for the Spring Session! Registration began Monday, March 23. Zumba Gold is the Latin-inspired dance fitness program that makes working out fun. Designed for the active senior, the Zumba Gold workout provides participants with the opportunity to improve balance, flexibility and cardiovascular strength. Instructor: Denny Pruitt
