To strengthen our community through providing recreation programs, services (broadly defined) and facilities to city residents that emphasize a healthy lifestyle, physical well-being, personal development, citizen involvement, integration of differing cultural and economic communities, and fun.
The Recreation Department offers a large variety of programs and activities. You can view, search, or register for these programs and activities using the Recreation Department's online registration system. Registration can also be completed in-person at the Takoma Park Community Center (7500 Maple Avenue) or the Takoma Park Recreation Center (7315 New Hampshire Avenue).

Mid Winter Play Day
...is right around the corner-- literally! This year Takoma Plays will be holding the Play Day on Takoma Park's zip code 20912 (2/09/12).
Join Takoma Plays and the Takoma Park Recreation Department as we encourage 'play' in Takoma Park. All residents and friends of Takoma Park are welcome to participate in this free event for the entire family (all ages).
Date: Thursday, February 9, 2012 Location: Takoma Park Community Center (7500 Maple Avenue, Takoma Park, MD 20912) Time: 6:00 – 8:00 PM What: All kinds of fun indoor play!
What to expect:
• Two sessions of Laughing Yoga
• The "Dress-up Lady" will have an assortment of costumes…
• Puzzle room
• Board games room
• Recreation room
• Play Dough room
• Playful entertainment will be in the auditorium
• The Co-op will be offering snacks.
For people that want to help us promote play they can donate play dough, help out during the Play Day or contact The Play Lady at pattenn58@aol.com. Teens can receive student service hours and may volunteer from 5:00 – 9:00 PM. Come play on zip code day!

Whether you are working, semi-retired, or retired, a variety of great leisure, educational and personal development opportunities are available for you through the 'Silver Foxes' Seniors Program at your local Community Center. The Silver Foxes Program offers activities that encourage and support health, creativity, and social interaction for active adults age 55 and older. Why not take the time to try something new?

Coaches, Volunteers, and Staff (Background Checks)
The Takoma Park Recreation Department has begun conducting background checks on all those serving as head coaches in our youth sports programs. Similarly, the department will continue to screen volunteers and staff who work with youth to help ensure the safest environment possible for our youth participants.
