TRASH AND RECYCLING
TRASH COLLECTION: Once a week service is offered at the curb. Set out trash, in cans with lids, the night before collection. Limit of 50 pounds per can. HOLIDAY TRASH SCHEDULE On weeks with a holiday celebrated on Monday, the collection of yard waste is cancelled.
*If holiday falls on Saturday it is observed on Friday, if holiday falls on Sunday it is observed on Monday. If Monday is a holiday:
(On Thanksgiving Holiday, Thursday trash and/or recyclables will be collected on the previous Wednesday and Friday's trash/recyclables will be collected on Saturday) For the exact schedule for your street or for heavy items collection, please call Public Works, (301) 891.7633. COLLECTION OF HEAVY ITEMS: Furniture and appliances are collected by appointment only. The fee is $10, payable by check or money order. Appointments can be made by calling 301.891.7633. TRASH CARTS FOR SALE: The City has 64 and 96 gallon trash carts for sale. The carts have attached lids, handles and wheels and cost $63.64 for 64 gal and $67.96 for 96 gal. RECYCLING COLLECTION: The City recycles glass and plastic bottles, (plastic bottles with narrow necks only), metal cans, newspaper, corrugated cardboard and mixed paper (includes magazines, junk mail, office paper). RECYCLING CONTAINERS AVAILABLE: Use the City provided recycling container for mixed bottles and cans. Containers are available for free at the Public Works office. YARD TRIMMINGS COLLECTION: Grass, leaves, branches and brush are collected weekly on Monday (except when a holiday falls on Monday). Please use paper bags or stiff sided containers. Branches less than 4 feet long and less than 3 inches in diameter can be tied in bundles. HAZARDOUS WASTE: Montgomery County accepts household hazardous waste at the transfer station located on Rt. 355 & Shady Grove Rd. Call 240.777.6400 for schedule. HOW TO DISPOSE OF FREON CONTAINING APPLIANCES: Airconditioners, Refrigerators and freezers contain a coolant called freon. Federal laws prohibit the release of freon into the air. These types of appliances need to be disposed of by a licensed company. Montgomery county allows residents to bring freon containing appliances to the transfer station for disposal, located at Rt 355 & Shady Grove Rd. Call 301.840.2370 for hours, directions, etc. MOTOR OIL & ANITFREEZE: The State of Maryland offers a used oil & antifreeze collection program. The Public Works Department has tanks available through this program. The collection tanks are accessible 7 days a week. Please dispose of oil/antifreeze in the appropriate collection container. The Public Works Department is located at 31 Oswego Avenue. |
