Vandalism to Takoma Park Middle School

On August 19, 2014, Takoma Park Police responded to the 7600 block of Piney Branch Road (Takoma Park Middle School) for vandalism.  Unknown suspect(s) tagged the school with graffiti.  It is believed the vandalism occurred sometime between the evening of August 17 and morning of August 19.  Unknown suspect(s) spray painted the word "GARF" on a concrete retaining wall at the intersection of Piney Branch Road and Grant Avenue.
 

IRS Phone Scam/Theft

On August 18, 2014, at approximately 5:30 pm, Takoma Park Police responded to the 500 block of Albany Avenue for the report of an IRS scam/theft.  The victim received a phone call from a person purporting to be from the IRS and threatened the victim by telling her she would be arrested if she did not provide money via electronic money cards for unpaid taxes.  She was told if she hung up the phone, an arrest warrant was automatically sent out for her arrest.  The victim did lose money in this scam.
 

Destruction of Property

On August 19, 2014, at approximately 12:00 am, Takoma Park Police responded to the 7900 block of Kennewick Avenue for the report of a destruction of property.  Unknown suspect(s) dented the victim's vehicle's hood and shattered the windshield.

Bicycle Theft

On August 19, 2014, Takoma Park Police responded to the 200 block of Park Avenue for a report of a stolen bicycle.  Unknown suspect(s) stole the victim's bicycle and bike lock.  The bicycle is described as a Giant brand mountain bike.

UPDATE Undetermined Death; Sligo Creek Parkway - Community Advisory

On August 1, 2014, at approximately 7:52 am, the Takoma Park Police Department responded to a call for a body found in Sligo Creek just north of the Carroll Avenue bridge.  The body was identified as a 20-year old Bowie man. The Medical Examiner determined the cause of death was severe head trauma consistent with a fall from the bridge. All evidence indicates that this matter was a suicide. In deference to the family, it is the policy of the Department that we do not release the name of the deceased.

Theft from Auto

On August 19, 2014, Takoma Park Police responded to the 500 block of New York Avenue for the report of a theft from auto.  Some time between August 18 at 7:00 pm and August 19 at 6:50 am, unknown suspect(s) entered the victim's unlocked vehicle and stole property.

Vacant House Fire

On August 15, 2014, at approximately 5:48 am, Takoma Park Police responded to the 6500 block of Kansas Avenue for a vacant house fire.  Upon arrival, police observed the rear of the vacant residence engulfed.  Fire and Rescue responded and extinguished the blaze.  There are no reported injuries.
