JOB SUMMARY AND DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE WORK

Under general supervision, oversees, plans, and supervises the repairs of equipment, machinery and motor vehicles.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Carries out supervisory responsibility in accordance with policies, procedures and applicable laws including: training in job skills; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Manages the purchasing and inventory control of parts, equipment, and supplies for unit.

Evaluates and recommends equipment for disposal; determines best option for disposal.

Assists in preparation of divisional budget; maintains balanced budget.

Maintains updated fleet management program in computer.

Maintains fuel system and assists users as needed.

Maintains miscellaneous data bases in computer as required.

Performs all aspects of the Mechanics position as needed.

Recommends vehicles and equipment specifications, assists in bid preparation.

Serves as City representative at a variety of outside organizations including: Council of Governments, Alternative Fuels, Clean Cities Partnership, etc.

Attends and participates in staff meetings, completes required forms and paperwork, and prepares work program and reports work progress periodically.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

Education and Experience

Associate level degree from a technical school; and,

Three to five years of progressively responsible experience; or,

Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.

Licenses and Certifications

Valid Class B Commercial Driver's License.

ASE and MACS Certifications.

Brake Inspector Certification desirable.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of:

Methods, tools and equipment utilized in the repair and maintenance of a wide variety of vehicles and equipment, both gas and diesel.

Administration of staff and activities, either directly or through subordinate supervision.

Recordkeeping, report preparation, filing methods and records management techniques.

All computer applications and hardware related to performance of the essential functions of the job.

Standard business arithmetic, including percentages and decimals.
