JOB SUMMARY AND DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE WORK

Under general supervision, performs duties associated with assuring the safety of children at designated street crossings.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Controls vehicular traffic at designated crossings to allow students/citizens to cross street safely.

Controls vehicular traffic at designated crossings to allow school buses safe entry and exit of school parking lots.

Encourages students to observe and obey traffic regulations at school crossings.

IMPORTANT JOB FUNCTIONS

Reports any traffic or other hazard pertaining to the crossings as warranted.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

Education and Experience

Ability to read, write and perform mathematics at an 8th grade level with a High School diploma or GED (desirable); and

No prior experience or training is required.

Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.

Licenses and Certifications:

None.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of:

State, city and local ordinances and laws pertaining to traffic safety.

Basic traffic direction.

Skill in:

Dealing with the general public.

Directing traffic around school crossings.

Mental and Physical Abilities

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and so forth.

Ability to make independent decisions and work with limited supervision.

While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, and speak and hear.

Working Conditions

While performing the essential functions of this position the employee is frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and outdoor weather conditions.
