Planned Development Projects

Information about current development projects:

• Takoma Park Elementary School on Holly Avenue Addition
• Washington Adventist Hospital expansion includes a planned relocation of the hospital from the current site.
• Bi-County Transitway (formerly known as the Purple Line) is a proposal to bring rapid transit (light rail or bus) to the corridor connecting Bethesda, Silver Spring, Takoma/ Langley Crossroads, College Park and New Carrollton.
• Takoma Metro Development includes several new and proposed multi-use projects.
• Takoma Langley Crossroads Transit Center is a project of Maryland Department of Transportation and the State Highway Administration to consolidate bus transfers on the site currently occupied by Taco Bell. The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission has launched the Takoma/Langley Crossroads Sector Plan, the goal of which is to produce a joint Bi-County plan that will enhance the unique character of this diverse multi-cultural community. Takoma Park Elementary School Addition

Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) has been planning an addition to the Takoma Park Elementary School over the past few years.  MCPS would like to initiate construction in the summer of 2009 and complete construction in the summer of 2010.

The addition will replace the trailers and the building currently located along Philadelphia Avenue.  The proposed improvements will include classrooms, daycare (provided by another County agency), will separate the bus traffic from car traffic by adding a one-way bus loop to the site off of Philadelphia Avenue, and will add parking so that teachers and parents no longer park in the neighborhood. 

After many meetings, the plans are finally at the 35% level and have been submitted to the Planning Board for Mandatory Referral. 

MCPS’ design team will provide a presentation updating the Council on the status of the plans on Monday, April 28th.  The Planning Board hearing will likely be at the beginning of June.  In preparation for the update.

35% plans means that hardscape such as paving and sidewalks are in the general spot they will eventually be, and that buildings are probably nearly 100% in the place, and landscaping, stormwater, etc. still may shift around considerably.
