The City of Takoma Park held a Design Charrette—a series of design meetings—on New Hampshire Avenue, including both the Ethan Allen Gateway and the Maryland Gateway in August 2007.

Planners and architects can lay the groundwork for building a good city. But history demonstrates that the best possible neighborhoods—ones that are alive, diverse, and sparkling with a real sense of place—can come together over time only through your participation.

Use this site to learn about the charrette, about new and old design, and to learn more about how you can help shape New Hampshire Avenue’s future. At the Charrette, residents, businesses and property owners worked with a team of urban designers and professionals to create a detailed framework to improve Maryland Gateway and Ethan Allen Gateway commercial areas.
