The mission of the Housing and Community Development Department is to provide quality and professional programming and services which preserve and enhance the community's existing building stock, revitalize commercial and residential neighborhoods, provide safe, decent, and affordable home ownership and rental housing opportunities, promote a sense of ownership and pride in the community, encourage and support private and public investment, and address the diverse needs of Takoma Park residents.
Founded in 1935, the Takoma Park Maryland library is the last small, independent, municipal library in Maryland. If you have a Takoma Park library card you have free access to the full text of newspaper and magazine articles from home, work or school.
The TPPD is a full service police agency of 41 sworn officers, 11 full time civilians, and 7 crossing guards. Ronald A. Ricucci has been Chief of Police since February of 2007. The department is divided into three divisions: Patrol, Support Services, and Administrative.
This department maintains our streets, sidewalks, city vehicles, city buildings, parks and gardens. Services include trash and recycling pickups, leaf collection, snow removal, and arborist services.
Takoma Park Recreation Department develops and provides creative, diversified, and safe programs and services, which will attract participants of all ages and cultures and to deliver those services and programs in an effective and efficient manner.
