The City Council generally meets four times each month, on Mondays, at 7:30 p.m.in the Council Chambers/Auditorium of the Takoma Park Community Center. There are two kinds of meetings: legislative sessions and worksessions.

Legislative sessions are generally held on the second and fourth Monday of the month. At legislative sessions, the council votes on ordinances and resolutions. Worksessions are generally held on the first and third Mondays of the month, but may also be held on other Mondays, after a legislative session. At worksessions, the council discusses issues that may become future legislative items, but does not take votes.

All regular meetings and worksessions of the Council are open to the public. In addition, they are shown live on Takoma Park City TV on Cable Channel 13 on the Comcast and Starpower/RCN cable systems. Meetings are replayed several times each week.
