City Manager Matthews referenced an e-mail she had sent to the City Council on Saturday, October 15th, updating Councilmembers on the status of the Community Center project. As indicated in the e-mail, the Fire Marshal's Office had conducted its inspections on this date. Those items noted by the inspector will be corrected, and photos of the work will be sent to the inspector to close out the file.
The City Manager also stated that certain water line work required by WSSC had been completed over the weekend. The civil engineer must now revise the as-built drawings to reflect this work, which will likely take two to three days. Certain water test results will be forwarded to WSSC by the civil engineer along with the as-built drawings.
City Manager Matthews informed the City Council that James F. Knott Construction Company had spoken to its subcontractors earlier in the day to discuss the outstanding work from the fire inspections as well as other work related to the building inspection. The goal was to complete this work in a relatively short timeframe so that the building inspection could take place the latter part of the week of October 17th.
The City Manager noted that Userful was scheduled to be on site on October 20th and 21st to set up the computers for the Computer Learning Center and to perform staff training. Because the City did not yet have an occupancy permit, their visit had been cancelled; the City would be responsible for the cost of the airfare. Library Director Ellen Arnold-Robbins would reschedule Userful's visit once the occupancy permit was in hand.
City Manager Matthews concluded her report by addressing the relocation of the City staff. She indicated that relocation of the staff was a high priority so that TRG Construction could proceed with its work on the Community Plaza Level phase of the project. The firm was tentatively scheduled to start demolition work of the non-police space on Monday, October 24th. The moving company had previously indicated that a Saturday move was a viable option, and staff planned to pursue this avenue if the Council determined that the Grand Opening event would not take place on October 22nd. Staff was also exploring having the moving company work on Sunday and/or having the public works staff perform some work in order to meet TRG’s needs.
The City Manager concluded her report by providing an update on the execution of a contract with TRG Construction. As she noted in her report of October 10th, the City had reached agreement on all terms and conditions. The goal was to have the contract executed by the end of the week.
