As City Manager Matthews advised the City Council via e-mail on June 1st, one of the printing companies had mistakenly distributed an old set of construction documents relating to the Community Plaza Level. In light of this information, the bid submission date has been extended to Wednesday, June 8th. In order to verify that all General Contractors have received the correct set of bid documents, the city asked each prospective bidder to review the Schedule of Drawings, confirm the date stamped upon each of the drawings, and submit this information to the project architect.
The City Manager informed the City Council that the initial work session on the Community Plaza Level bids would be held on June 13th. At this time, staff will brief the Council on the results of the bid process and the most current information on available project funding. The work session will also provide an opportunity for the City Council to discuss any items of interest that are not part of the existing contract with James F. Knott Construction Company or the Community Plaza Level phase.
City Manager Matthews then provided the City Council with an overview of the structure of the bid for the Community Plaza Level. She noted that the scope of work covered by the base bid had changed since the original bids were received in September 2004. The base bid now includes the renovation of the two sets of existing restrooms on the main level of the Municipal Building to provide greater accessibility as recommended by Jim DiLuigi and John Salmen.
The City Manager further advised the City Council that the Community Plaza Level bid included five bid alternates. These alternates include the use of low VOC interior paint, the addition of a commercial warming kitchen, the installation of a door and CCTV security system, window protection for the public safety plaza level, and the installation of a voice fire alarm system.
Lastly, City Manager Matthews informed the City Council that PEPCO was close to completing the underground work for the permanent power connection to the building. It was anticipated that the remaining work would be completed during the week of June 6th. The City Manager reminded the City Council that it would take James F. Knott Construction Company approximately four weeks to perform the remaining tasks to achieve the permanent power connection to the building. As a result, the projected completion date for the work currently in progress was mid- to late July.
