City Manager Matthews advised the City Council that the City had reached agreement with James F. Knott Construction on the corrective repairs to be made to the front (Maple Avenue) parking lot. Work commenced on Monday, May 22nd and was expected to continue through the week of June 5th.
The City Manager informed the City Council that soil borings were taken in the area of the proposed gymnasium as well as the rear parking lot on Friday, May 19th. The results of the borings had been sent to the lab for analysis. She expected to receive the report of ECS, the firm hired to perform the geotechnical analysis, in approximately two weeks.
City Manager Matthews noted that the trailer immediately adjacent to the Community Center that housed certain Recreation Department staff members had been moved on Friday, May 19th. The removal of the trailer was necessary in order for TRG Construction to move forward with a door installation required as part of the Phase Two construction.
The City Manager updated the City Council on the mediation of certain Proposed Change Orders (PCOs) between the City and James F. Knott Construction and one of its subcontractors. The mediation session had taken place on Monday, May 22nd. At the end of the day-long session, the parties had not reached agreement on the PCOs.
City Manager Matthews informed the City Council that the City had applied for and received a grant of $21,000 from the Takoma Foundation. The monies would be used to purchase furnishings and equipment for some of the Phase Two spaces.
