City Manager Matthews advised the City Council that work in the lobby area outside of the auditorium was on schedule. As of May 8th, Council meetings would return to the auditorium, and the elevator would be back in use.
The City Manager further advised the City Council that Phase Two (often referred to as the Community Plaza Level) was progressing well. This phase of the Community Center project was scheduled to be completed by the end of May.
City Manager Matthews noted that staff had been working with TRG Construction to identify the cost of installing an elevator cab in the front (Maple Avenue side) of the Community Center. The initial discussions focused on the dimensions included in the original project specifications, which called for an 8' high elevator (consistent with the existing elevator in the building). Due to code requirements, the installation of such an elevator would require certain structural modifications, which would be costly. TRG Construction, in conjunction with the project management team, identified an alternative elevator cab design that would be less costly. This elevator cab would be 7'3" in height. The cost estimate provided by TRG Construction for installation of the elevator cab was approximately $190,000. The City Manager noted that there would a modest additional cost associated with the equipment/programming necessary to allow certain floors to be "locked off" for security reasons.
