City Manager's Update - March 20, 2006

City Manager Matthews noted the current work underway on and around the site of the Takoma Park Library. She stated that a portion of the work was being performed by TRG Construction and involved certain drainage improvements. Additionally, new soffits were being installed by another contractor.

As mentioned on March 13th, the auditorium and elevator would be unavailable for use from April 11th through May 5th due to construction activities. Staff had explored alternative locations for all city-sponsored meetings during this time period for accessibility reasons. The City Manager advised the City Council that the staff had reserved space at the Takoma Park Middle School for the Council meetings to be held on April 17th, April 24th, and May 1st. Board and commission meetings would be held in the Senior Room located in the Computer Learning Center.

City Manager Matthews stated that she had received inquiries concerning concrete cracking in various locations on the project site. She advised the City Council that these items had been noted during the inspection process. The city had retained a structural engineer to evaluate the cracks.

The City Manager Matthews informed the City Council that the city had received a draft contract from ECS for subsurface exploration and geotechnical engineering analysis (i.e., soil borings). The proposal provided for eight borings to be conducted. From the time of contract authorization, the entire scope should take three to four weeks.

Councilmember Williams advised the City Council that a meeting had been held during the week of March 13th concerning possible improvements to the auditorium. Updates would be provided to the Council as additional information becomes available.
