City Manager's Update - January 23, 2006

City Manager Matthews advised the City Council that a meeting concerning the tile workmanship in the lobby area of the Public Safety Plaza had taken place on Wednesday, January 18th. As a first step, a small area of the tile would be re-worked to determine if this approach would meet the City's quality requirements.

As indicated in a prior report, a number of the outstanding Proposed Change Orders (PCOs) involve work performed by a major subcontractor of James F. Knott Construction Company. The subcontractor had notified the contractor that the City's position relative to these PCOs was not acceptable and further advised James F. Knott Construction Company of its desire to pursue mediation. As the subcontractor was not a party to the contract between the City and James F. Knott Construction Company, the subcontractor had no rights to demand mediation. Only James F. Knott Construction could do so. To date, the City had not received a formal demand from the contractor requesting mediation.
