BLOCK PARTY PERMITS

A Permit is needed to hold a block party in Takoma Park. You may request a petition form from the City Clerk’s Office (clerk@takomagov.org or 301-891-7267). Please submit the petition at least seven days prior to your scheduled event.

If you live on a county or state road, the process is different. Please consult the City Clerk’s office for more information.

GENERAL RULES

1. Signatures from at least 60% of the households on subject street(s) must be submitted. Use additional forms if needed.
2. Tenants as well as homeowners are to be included.
3. Only one signature per household will be considered. The petition should only be signed by an adult member of the household.
4. If the street being considered for closure provides the only ingress/egress route for other streets, those streets must also be petitioned.
5. Streets must be reopened before nightfall.
6. Petitions must be submitted to the City Clerk’s Office at least seven (7) working days prior to the proposed event.
7. If the request is approved, your permit will be mailed or available for pick up prior to the event.
8. Barricades may be picked up at the Public Works Department between 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. You will be asked to sign for the barricades and show the permit. Barricades are to be returned the first business day after the event. Please follow any special instructions from the Police Department about the placement of the barricades. These instructions will be noted on your permit.
9. Please note that your event will be subject to the City’s Noise Control Ordinance. If you believe your event may violate the Noise Ordinance, you may need to request a temporary waiver.
