Auditorium Renovation Background Information

 

Below please find all the background information related to the renovation of the Takoma Park Auditorium.

Auditorium Update - July 15, 2009


Bids were opened on July 10, 2009. Nine bids were received. The bids are being evaluated for responsiveness and completeness. The City may or may not choose the lowest bid; the decision will be based on the responsive proposal that is in the best interest of the City. A decision on the bid award is scheduled for the evening of July 27, 2009.

The period for submitting questions to info@iStudioarchitects.com was extended to Tuesday, June 30 at 10 am. Responses are posted below as Bid Addendum #3.


A non-mandatory walk-through of the site (Auditorium, Takoma Park Community Center, 7500 Maple Avenue, Takoma Park, Maryland) is scheduled for Thursday, July 2 at 10 am.

Proposals are due by 10 am on Friday, July 10, 2009. Construction activity is to begin July 27, 2009 (although the auditorium must be able to be used the evening of July 27 for the last scheduled Council meeting) and is to be completed within 180 days of award of contract.

Proposed Renovation of the Takoma Park City Council Chambers/Auditorium Renovation

BACKGROUND:

On March 5, 2007, the Takoma Park Arts and Humanities Commission requested that the Council conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the feasibility of renovating the auditorium for use as both a venue for the performing arts and a meeting space for official Council proceedings. The Resolution submitted by the Commission requested that the feasibility study consider all aspects of the proposed use of the space, provide for the telecasting of Council meetings, performances and other events, and ensure the accessibility of the facilities. Following that discussion, the City Council directed staff to proceed with issuing a Request for Proposals for such a study.

On March 30, 2007, the City of Takoma Park issued a “Request for Proposals for Architectural Services in Connection with the Proposed Renovation of the Council Chambers/Auditorium.” Three responsive proposals were received and MTFA Architecture was selected to conduct the Feasibility Study.
