The City of Takoma Park accepts passport book applications from Monday, Tuesday, Thursday - 9 am to 1:30 pm and Wednesday - 9 am to 4 pm. Please call 301-891-7100 to confirm.
What do I need to do to apply for a U.S. Passport Book?
- You need to complete a passport application available at the Municipal Building or by downloading applications from U.S. Department of State Passport Application Forms
- Bring proof United State citizenship or a naturalization certificate
- Bring two identical photographs
- 2 x 2 inches in size, preferably color (black and white acceptable)
- Bring proof of identity containing your signature and physical description or photograph In the form of:
- A recent Certificate of Naturalization or of Citizenship
- A driver's license, (Learner's Permit or Temporary IDs are not acceptable)
- A government identification card or pass.
- Work ID
- School ID
- Bring payment for services in the form of check or money order.
- Notes: Must have at least one check or money order for passport fees, expedite fees, etc. A $30 execution fee can be paid with cash, check, or money order.
- U.S. passport applications for children under age 16 require both parents and the child to be present.
- The original U.S. proof of citizenship must be submitted when applying for a U.S. Passport. Xeroxed copies are unacceptable.
What are the fees for Passport Book Services?
Age 16 and Older
Total cost of $100 includes: Passport Fee of $75 (to be paid to U. S. Department of State by personal check or money order) plus $25 Execution Fee (to be paid to the City of Takoma Park by personal check, money order or cash)
Under Age 16
Total cost of $85 includes: Passport Fee of $60 (to be paid to U. S. Department of State by personal check or money order) plus $25 Execution Fee (to be paid to City of Takoma Park by personal check, money order or cash)

Expedited Services: Add $60 for each application made payable to the U.S. Department of State.
Passport fees and execution fees must be paid separately.
How do I renew my passport book?
You can renew your U.S. Passport Book IF ...
- you can submit your most recent passport with your application
- you were at least 16 years old when your passport was issued.
- your most recent passport was issued less than 15 years ago
- your name has not changed since your last passport was issued OR your name was changed by marriage or court order and you can submit proper documentation to reflect the name change.
then you renew your passport by completing form DS-82 and submitting your application by mail. The cost is $75; if you choose expedited service, the total fee is $160 to the U.S. Department of State.
IF YOU are NOT eligible for renewal , you must apply for a U.S. passport via the regular process described above.
NEW U.S. PASSPORT CARD
The Department of State has developed a Passport Card as a more portable and less expensive alternative to the traditional passport book. The New Passport Card can ONLY be used for land and sea travel. The Card will not be in production until the Spring 2008 but customers may apply early for the card beginning February 1, 2008.
The Card will be valid for 10 years for adults and 5 years for children 15 and younger (the same as a passport book). Fees will be $45 for Adults and $35 for children. Adults who already have a passport book may apply for the card as a passport renewal for $20. The City of Takoma Park will accept applications for the card. The processing fee will be $25, the same as a passport book.
