Action is a computer based customer service tool. Residents can file new inquiries, complaints or requests for service and review previous ones. Do not use this system for a complaint or situation that requires immediate police response or action. Instead, please call Police Communications Dispatch at 301.270.1100. Use 911 for emergencies.
PLEASE NOTE: This application works best with Internet Explorer. While the City would prefer compatibility with other browsers, the vendor has not yet provided this upgrade.
If you have used this system previously, please enter. |
If you have not used this system before, please read the following information. You may want to print a copy of these instructions.
Initial Registration
- The first time you use the system you will be asked to register. This is similar to registration for free e-mail accounts. Please write down, and remember, your user name and password. You should also record, and keep, the case numbers for any reports you enter.
- An e-mail address is required. If you do not have one, you will need to get one first. You may want to visit the library's list of free-mail providers for ideas, especially if you are using one of the public access computers.
- If you later forget your password, you can set a new one by correctly answering the secret question
Entering Reports
- You must first sign in and then click on new item .
[If you are using Netscape 6/7 or Mozilla FireFox, you will need to click on "sign in" a second time, after you have already signed in, to get an acknowledgement and to bring up the next menu. Because of flaws in the Action software, Opera and earlier versions of Netscape will not work at all. Also please note: the software does attempt to set a cookie.]
- Please note that some fields are required. Something must be entered in the problem location box, but it can be something like "corner of Maple and Philadelphia". An exact street address is not required.
- You will be asked to choose an action code for your new item. If you can't find an exact match, just choose the closest fit. A human being will be looking at your entry and will redirect it to the most appropriate staff member.
- When you click the "preview" button you will be able to review your entry. If it is acceptable, click the "submit" button at the bottom of the preview screen. It enters the tracking system at that point. If you want to modify the information first, click on "edit" instead of "submit."
- Record the case number when you see it on the preview screen.
- To prevent misuse of the system, you will be limited to four reports per day.
Checking the Status of Previous Reports
- Normally you will not receive any e-mail messages concerning your report. You need to return to the action system to check the progress. You must first sign in and then click on either my open items or check status .
- my open items will list all your entries which are pending. Items which have been closed or transferred to code enforcement will not be displayed. [For the status of a code enforcement item please call 301.891.7255.] Be sure to click on the case number, not the location, to see the details.
- check status will give you access to all requests based on case number, even if they have been closed or transferred to code enforcement.
When you are all finished, please log out. This is especially important if you are using a public access computer.
PLEASE NOTE: We have been experiencing application errors with the ACTION software. Please continue to use the system but help us out by e-mailing your concerns, problems and questions to: abelc@takomagov.org or by calling 301.891.7267.
